Groups 5 and 6

Hello everyone! Welcome to another post!

Group 5:

Last Thursday it was my groups turn to present. We arrived early and at first we just had an student so I worried a bit but then more students joined.

My group's topic was the time, so we made sure that we explained it trough different engaging activities. Our class turned out to be a very dynamic one and I could really tell students enjoyed it and learned something new, even if they had a clue about the topic already.

Our class started with the warm up, Miriam lead the activity which was called " the human knot" and it made students awake, i think they had fun and got ready to engage in our class.

After that, Fernando explained the topic, he started by gelling students that we use numbers so they quickly reviewed it as they were getting more into the topic, he did it with a great energy and he even took advantage of the a magic moment to introduce a new word.

Then dani took a "magic basket" and the ones getting the same slip color from it would work in pairs. One student would ask a  question related to daily activities and the  student would reply saying the time he or she did that activity.

Later, María continued with some practices and presented the time in different cities around the world and she also gave some interesting facts about time.

The, it was my tourn. I had taken some crafted clocks and after pairing students, I instructed them to set a time, and the other student would say the time and then they would compare. I also did a writing activity in a boys vs girls game and they loved it!

Finally, for the wrap up, Miriam had students play Bingo, she would say some hours, words or objects that they learned in class and they had to make a vertical or horizontal row in order to win. It was very fun!

Group 6:

Group 6 presented the topic "There is and there are". Something I really liked about this team was that they made it very clear when it comes to the difference between singular and plural, proof of it was when a student verbalized that "there is is for one thing" and "there are" is used for two or more things.

They explained the theory and relied in Spanish rules to make it clear in English, and then they also had some writing exercises to make sure they got the idea. They presented some images and students had to figure it out between there is and there are, among other exercises like gap filling, etc.

I'll leave some pics, all at the end, thank you guys for reading this summary, see you around! Bye-bye!

Community Language Learning Method

Hi there! Welcome back to my blog!  In this entry, we are going to review the Community Language  Learning Method. If I were to define this method in three words, I´d say: together, speaking, and flow. This method is based on the idea that students learn with and from other peers, that´s why they need each other in the process. This method doesn´t require lesson planning which allows the session to flow and gives the students and teacher the chance to integrate interesting topics, however, there's the risk of not handling time well. Since talking is essential, it is better to use this method with advanced-level learners. Something that caught my attention and I think works pretty well is the use of authentic material, such as podcasts, movies, maybe some speeches, or music because I think that is the best approach to real-life speaking and that is what sometimes students lack. When we are too accustomed to workbooks and only workbooks we don't have a close idea of real English...

Presentation Practice and Production

Hello everyone!  Welcome back to the last entry of this register! Today we are going to discuss  what we studied in our last class: Presentation Practice and Production. This are the stages of a class. In the first stage which is presentation, the teacher takes the most time to explain. In this stage, students understand concepts. This stage is mostly for  teachers, they have to be resourceful and do what they have to do to explain and make students understand. They can use replicas, realia, images, among others to teach vocabulary, they sometimes go straight to the point (deductively) or by letting students discover in contexts or practicing conversations  (inductively) in the case of grammatical topics. Then, we have our second stage, which is “Practice”. Students rehearse in this stage. The interaction goes in both ways students-teacher teacher-students but students are the ones practicing, while teachers can be walking around providing just the necessary he...
