Hi everyone!! This past September the 7th we received our feedback. We didn’t have a class as such, but it was very important to get our feedback on our las tradition (the demo class we performed) you can read my last blog as well :). So, teacher Orlando gathered us team by team, and he told us what we had done very well and what we could improve. Ir esa bofe yo hear from t茅chese Orlando that we did goos overall land that he had liked our energy very much. We faced some challenges like being rushed by the people outside the classroom and some setbacks, but we could manage to go for a plan B.  This is teacher Orlando explaining to us what we have to do for our next evaluation!

Lesson plans

Hello everyone! It’s nice having you back!  We learned how to craft our lesson plans, teacher Orlando shared some very useful tips that I will share with you in a moment. First of all we all agreed that PPT is used for grammar and vocabulary classes, whereas PDP is used for listening and reading classes.  PPT envolver  Warm up:  We reviewed some aspects like the important things to keep in mind while warming up. It shout be short, we can start with question time. In the PRODUCTION: We use the language, students produce and follow structures. Up to this point we should be CCQing our students. Besides, As teachers, should make sure we use the pair-share-technique in which students first work on their own, then they should work in pairs and last but no least, the class share answers as a whole. The production can or should be in an oral way or written way.  Teacher Orlando also said that we shouldn’t forget to add controlled and free practices. And controlled shoul...

Grammar and Vocabulary Demo Classes

Hello dear teacher and classmates!! Welcome to another weekly entry. Time flies and I can´t believe we are already in a new register! This time, let me start with a fantastic record of our last class. We did some demo classes as a team. It was very funny to see all the course wearing black as if we had planned it!馃槄馃槀 Teacher Orlando divided us into four different groups, I'll introduce mine in a second. And we performed grammar and vocabulary topics as teachers. Let´s get into it and review what each one of us presented to the class! Group 1: Vocabulary - Medical Vocabulary Group number one decided to teach medical vocabulary. I really loved their activities and the topic was especially important since we will most likely be interpreting or translating medical-related things, so I found it very useful.  First of all, they started asking some questions, they showed us some medical stuff and we brainstormed as a class, trying to guess what the right term for the image was. Then, the...

Presentation Practice and Production

Hello everyone!  Welcome back to the last entry of this register! Today we are going to discuss  what we studied in our last class: Presentation Practice and Production. This are the stages of a class. In the first stage which is presentation, the teacher takes the most time to explain. In this stage, students understand concepts. This stage is mostly for  teachers, they have to be resourceful and do what they have to do to explain and make students understand. They can use replicas, realia, images, among others to teach vocabulary, they sometimes go straight to the point (deductively) or by letting students discover in contexts or practicing conversations  (inductively) in the case of grammatical topics. Then, we have our second stage, which is “Practice”. Students rehearse in this stage. The interaction goes in both ways students-teacher teacher-students but students are the ones practicing, while teachers can be walking around providing just the necessary he...

Flexibility in Lesson Planning

Hi everyone! Welcome back to a new weakly entry. Today I´m going to reviuew a couple of very important things related to the translation and interpreting market, so you can take a seat and get ready for a blog full of useful info!   We began our class with a survey. We helped teacher Brendaly with some senior students who are working on their college thesis project. I was glad we could be part of it, and I was happy I could rehearse sight translation, it had been a while since we last practiced this in our fourth year of the major. I hope to look to their job when they´re done!   Then, we had a visitor in the classroom, we welcomed Regina, a current student of the major who has 20 or more years of experience in the interpreting and translation field. She talked about prices, what to charge, and when to use the different modes of interpreting since many of us are starting to make an income out of the field, so it is important for us to know some important tips, for instance: as...

Magic moments, sensible diversions, unforeseen problems and SMART obujectives

Hello everyone! How are you doing? I hope you´re doing awesome and that you're ready for... 馃馃馃 Another weakly entry! Today we are going to get into Magic moments, sensible diversions, unforeseen problems, and S.M.A.R.T objectives in lesson planning. We started yesterday's class by talking about objectives. Objectives are very important to know what we want to focus on and what we are seeking for students to reach at the end of the lesson. Teacher Orlando mentioned that there are 3 main types of objectives; we can be as vague or as precise as we want with our objectives. Or we can be somehow in between, but we should always make sure that we are clear with what we want to achieve.  I was reading the material about S.M.A.R.T. objectives. They should be Specific. Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-based. This is a very useful key to what we should consider when crafting our objectives. Teacher Orlando also showed us an example of his own (the one that he crafted...

Lesson planning, CCQs & ICQs

Hi everyone! Welcome back to a new entry! ☺️ Today we are going to review last class´ topics, which were Lesson planning, CCQs, and ICQs. The last two were totally new for me, and I was impressed by how teachers do so much more behind the scenes, and everything they do to teach their students is backed up with the theory. I thought it was just a coincidence their way of asking questions. 馃槃 Thursday´s session was asynchronous since University was crowded because of its anniversary, however... We had material to work on! I went through it, and as soon as I started reading I realized that we would find something new and interesting. I watched the videos on lesson planning and I totally agreed that planning our lessons is vital to save plenty of our time, teachers can recycle PPTS, worksheets, realia, etc, besides, this helps to avoid behavioral problems since everything is planned according to time, so students ideally won´t have too many gaps to get distracted.  I recorded my opinio...
